Dark Grove Blend
Bold, Dark, Unforgettable
For those who like their coffee with conviction. The Dark Grove Blend is our darkest roast โ pushed to the edge of second crack over white oak flame, then sealed with a heavier coat of buckwheat honey. The result is a full-bodied, smoky cup with notes of dark chocolate, toasted walnut, and a lingering molasses sweetness that rewards every sip.

Why "Dark Grove"?
The name comes from the dense oak grove behind our roasting shed โ the same trees that provide the wood for our fire-roasting. On roasting days, the smoke drifts through those dark branches and the whole property smells like a coffee lover's dream. This blend captures that atmosphere in a cup: deep, woody, enveloping.
The Blend & Origin
Dark Grove is our only blend โ a carefully calibrated mix of two origins. The base is a full-bodied Brazilian natural process bean that brings chocolate and nutty depth. We layer in a washed Ethiopian component (about 30%) that adds complexity and prevents the roast from becoming one-dimensional. Both are sourced through direct trade relationships, and we adjust the ratio seasonally to maintain consistency as each harvest's character shifts.
Roasting Process
This is our longest roast โ nearly 18 minutes over open flame compared to 12-14 for our medium roasts. We use a slightly higher flame and rotate the beans more frequently to ensure even development without scorching. The buckwheat honey seal is applied at a higher temperature than our other roasts, creating a slightly thicker coating that locks in the bold flavors and adds its own distinctive dark sweetness.
How to Brew
Dark Grove excels in espresso and moka pot preparations where the concentrated extraction highlights its chocolate and smoke character. For drip or pour-over, use a slightly finer grind and shorter contact time to avoid over-extraction. This is also our best cold brew bean โ the 16-hour steep mellows the smoke and amplifies the chocolate and molasses notes beautifully.
